SUMMARY:Dental Health During and After Cancer Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Dental Health During and After Cancer Treatment\, presented by Cynthia Kuang\, DDS\, RN\nRegister here.\nCancer treatment can affect many parts of the body\, and the mouth is no exception. Some individuals undergoing treatment for breast or gynecologic cancer may experience sensitive teeth\, dry mouth\, mouth sores\, tooth decay\, gum inflammation\, changes in taste\, or jaw discomfort. These side effects may occur during chemotherapy or radiation\, and in some cases may continue after treatment ends. \nFor many people\, cancer care continues well beyond the completion of initial treatment. Long-term medications used to reduce the risk of recurrence\, such as hormone therapies or bone-strengthening medications\, may require special precautions when undergoing certain dental procedures. Complex dental work\, including extractions or implants\, may require coordination between your dental team and oncology team to ensure your safety. \nTaking care of your teeth and gums is an important part of overall health and healing. Prevention is one of the most important ways to protect oral health during and after cancer treatment. However\, access to dental care can be a challenge. Many individuals do not have dental insurance\, and even those who do may struggle to find providers experienced in supporting patients through cancer treatment. \nIn this webinar\, Cynthia Kuang\, D.D.S.\, R.N.\, will discuss how cancer treatments such as chemotherapy\, radiation\, and certain medications can affect oral health. Dr. Kuang is a periodontist whose dual training in nursing and dentistry provides a strong background in caring for individuals with complex medical needs. \nYou will learn practical strategies to protect your teeth and gums during treatment\, how to care for your mouth after treatment ends\, when to see a dentist\, and how dental providers and cancer care teams can work together to support your long-term health. \nJoin us to gain practical knowledge and helpful tools for protecting your oral health during and after cancer treatment. \nEach webinar will include an ASL interpreter provided by Interpretek. Join us to learn\, ask questions\, and leave feeling empowered to take charge of your health journey.

SUMMARY:Death Café
DESCRIPTION:While the name Death Café may seem unsettling\, its true purpose quite the opposite. Death Café aims to create a safe and respectful space where the sometimes-uncomfortable topic of death and dying can be explored through open\, honest conversation. The goal is to encourage meaningful conversations about mortality and to celebrate the richness of our finite lives. \nDeath Café takes place all over the world\, and helps encourage conversations about death\, and empowering people to express their own wishes for end-of-life. The open-ended discussions provide an avenue to express thoughts about one’s own life stirred up by the death of a family member… or a breast or gynecologic cancer diagnosis. \nWhat is Death Café?\nDeath Café provides an open\, confidential\, respectful\, and safe space to discuss thoughts\, feelings\, and concerns about death and dying. The format is flexible\, lightweight\, and straightforward. Conversations are facilitated. \nWhat isn’t part of Death Café? \nDeath Café is not a bereavement support or grief counseling setting. Death Café doesn’t work for people who\, for whatever reason\, aren’t able to discuss death comfortably and openly. Death Café isn’t an opportunity to give people information about death and dying – regardless of how good or important it is. Rather\, we create time to discuss death without expectations. \nTo learn more or to register please email Yvonne@bccr.org.

SUMMARY:Everyday Home Exposures and Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Everyday Home Exposures and Cancer\, presented by Katrina Korfmacher\, PhD\, and Becca Lauzon\, PhD\nRegister here.\nA cancer diagnosis often brings urgent questions. What might have caused it? How can I reduce my risk moving forward? While there are no simple answers\, researchers continue to uncover how our surroundings—from the air we breathe to the products we use—may impact our health. \nJoin us on April 22 for a clear\, accessible conversation about environmental exposures in the home with local researchers Katrina Korfmacher\, PhD\, and Becca Lauzon\, PhD. While sharing recent research in Rochester homes\, they will discuss common home exposures and what we know and don’t know about effects on health and cancer development. \nThis session is designed for patients\, families\, caregivers\, healthcare providers\, and anyone else interested in gaining greater understanding of the complex relationship between our home and our health. Join us to learn what we can do individually and as communities to support healthier environments. \nEach webinar will include an ASL interpreter provided by Interpretek. Join us to learn\, ask questions\, and leave feeling empowered to take charge of your health journey.
