Gynecologic Cancer Research Grants
Thank you for your interest in the Coalition’s Gynecologic Cancer Research Grant Initiative. Researchers affiliated with institutions in New York State are welcome to apply.
The Breast Cancer Coalition annually offers a two Gynecologic Cancer Research Grants:
- The Julie Jeffries Gynecologic Cancer Research Faculty Grant ($50,000)
- The Gynecologic Cancer Research Trainee Grant($25,000)
The grants are awarded with the potential to yield significant medical breakthroughs in the cause and prevention of breast cancer, prevention of metastasis, and cure. Research proposals are solicited from regional medical and research institutions and through the Coalition’s website. Since 2003, the Coalition has awarded $1,301,125 to researchers in New York State.
2026/2027 Gynecologic Cancer Research Initiative Timeline:
- Tuesday, December 1, 2026 – Request for Proposals open
- Wednesday April 7, 2027 – Proposal submission deadline
- May 2027 – Research Review by the Coalition’s Research Committee
- Thursday, July 29, 2027 – Research Grant Award Celebration

Research Grant Honoree
The Julie Jeffries Gynecologic Cancer Research Faculty Grant
Julie Jeffries faced her cancer journey with remarkable strength and resilience. Over the years, she navigated multiple diagnoses, recurrences, and the challenges of metastatic disease. Throughout it all, the Breast Cancer Coalition became a place of connection, understanding, and community.
A regular participant in Coalition programs, Julie found friendship and encouragement through groups like Common Ground and Brown Bag. She also became a source of support and inspiration to others facing similar experiences.
“The Coalition brought out a soft side of Mom, a side we didn’t often see, as she was always such a strong lady,” recalls her son, Bo Jeffries. For Julie, the Coalition was more than a resource—it was a place where she felt understood and belonged.
Julie’s gratitude for the Coalition was reflected in her generosity. Each year, she donated $1,111.11 in honor of her first diagnosis on November 11, 2011, turning a difficult anniversary into an opportunity to help others.
Following Julie’s passing last year, her sons, Bo and Denis Jeffries, established the Julie Jeffries Gynecologic Cancer Research Faculty Grant, a $50,000 award supporting the Breast Cancer Coalition’s new Gynecologic Cancer Research Initiative. “It’s just such a natural fit, and we’re proud to carry on Mom’s legacy with the Coalition,” says Denis.
