Non-cash assets can be a powerful and tax-efficient way to support the Breast Cancer Coalition. Gifts such as retirement account distributions, donor advised fund grants, and appreciated assets may allow you to maximize your charitable impact while potentially receiving valuable tax benefits. We encourage you to consult with your financial, legal, or tax advisor to determine which giving option is right for you.
Appreciated Assets:
Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cryptocurrency, real estate, business interests, and more. Instead of selling an asset and donating the cash proceeds, the asset can be transferred directly to the Coalition.
Benefits:
You may avoid capital gains tax on the increase in value, while still receiving a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the asset. It’s a simple and tax-efficient way to make a meaningful impact.
Qualified Charitable Distributions:
Tax-Free Gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) If you are 70 ½ years or older, you are eligible to make tax free direct gifts to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester from your IRA through a charitable distribution. This is known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
If you are subject to a required minimum distribution (RMD), a qualified charitable distribution “counts” toward your RMD. Gifts are limited to $111,000 annually (2026) per person and can be made only from a traditional or Roth IRA; retirement plans such as pensions and 401(k) or 403(b) plans must first be transferred to an IRA. Gifts must be outright to the charity.
Benefits:
- Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see the difference it makes.
- A transfer is tax-free and is not included in your adjusted gross income.
- Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level.
Next Steps:
- Let your financial institution know you wish to provide a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
- Ask the representative for details on how the transaction should be handled, according to their procedures.
- Request a check or ACH be made payable to “the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester” and indicate that it is a “qualified distribution from the account of (your name)”.
- Ask them to send the check to: The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, 1048 University Ave. Rochester, New York 14607. Federal Tax ID#: 16-1541293
Donor Advised Funds (DAF’s):
If you have established a Donor Advised Fund through a community foundation or financial institution, you may recommend a grant to support the Coalition.
Benefits:
You may receive an immediate charitable tax deduction when contributing to your DAF, and can then recommend grants to the Coalition at any time.
