I was diagnosed at 38 y/o on August 2, 2023 after finding a lump in my left breast. My primary doctor sent me for a mammogram and that’s when I got the news.
I had always known about the Coalition, but for some reason, it took me almost a year to reach out. I reached out because I was interested in one of the yoga classes they offered. After a phone call and meeting with Christina, I was welcomed with open arms and assigned a PAL. The rest is history. I participated in every session of yoga and applied for the PALS training to become a PAL myself. I started participating in the Young Survivors group and explored a lot of other programming. Although I wish I had reached out sooner, I have embraced everything the Coalition has to offer. I was so honored and humbled to be selected for the Emerging Leaders program this year. Looking back on where I was 2 years ago, I would have never thought this is where I would be today. I am grateful for the connection, support and friendships – most of all, the growth. Everyone sees things differently once they are diagnosed, I believe this was the path that was chosen for me for a reason, regardless of how it started – I’m excited to continue to grow with the Coalition – it continues to be a warm hug that’s always there when you need it.
