The Coalition offers in-person and hybrid discussion groups for individuals living with a metastatic* breast or gynecologic cancer diagnosis. These gatherings, called Common Ground, provide a welcoming space to connect with others who understand. In Common Ground, you’ll find support, shared understanding, and a thriving community built on connection and compassion.
Common Ground meets weekly and is professional facilitated by Theo Munson, MSW.
Programs and services are free of charge.

*Metastatic Cancer, also known as Stage IV, recurrent, or chronic cancer, is cancer that has spread from its original source to other organs, such as bones, liver, lung, or brain. This process is called metastasis.

Facilitator: Theo Munson, MPH, retired from her position in Hospice Bereavement Care in 2020. Over a 25-year period at Lifetime Care (now Rochester Regional Hospice), she provided one-to-one counseling, support group facilitation, supervision of volunteers and community workshops. “Understanding Grief and Loss” has been central to her career. She has long been a big believer in Support Groups — establishing them at the U of R Cancer Center (1980’s) then at Cancer Action (’90-93). Currently, she facilitates the Common Ground support program at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. She and her husband, Stephen, facilitated support sessions for spouses affected by their wives’ cancer. They enjoy entertaining, music-making, and church activities which help them live their values. Theo is constantly inspired by the resilience of the human spirit!
